Area Trees

Eastern White Pine

One of the most common trees in our area is the Eastern White Pine. This large (100-150 feet) northeastern conifer can be readily identified by its gray, deeply grooved bark with narrow, scaly ridges. It likes well-drained sandy soil and has long-stalked pine cones with thin, round, flat scales. Branches grow horizontally with a row added each year. Its needles grow 5 to a bundle along its branches and have their main bundle concentrations at the tips of each branch.
