OLD BUSINESS:
- Beverly Schultz and Leon Weaver gave reports on ongoing the Guilford Project
- Larry Sime gave a report on the RFP from the Weed Control Committee. We are currently seeking a qualified consultant to complete a $20,000 assessment of the pond.
- Leon Weaver gave a talk on the Merrimack River WaterShed Council and the Stream Walk planned for May/June timeframe. SPA has agreed to be an active participant in studying the watershed with particular attention on identifying sources of runoff into the system.
- A motion was moved and seconded to join and accept the bylaws of the Littleton Lakes Coalition. The vote was unanimous. There will be two representatives from our associations attending their meetings.
NEW BUSINESS:
June 10th has been selected as Spectacle Pond Boat Ramp Cleanup Day with a Potluck Dinner following at the beach of Bev & Ken Schultz. Ham & Chicken will be provided. Bring a salad or dessert to share.
OLD BUSINESS:
AUDIT
- Associations book's were audited and found to be in order
- Thanks to Joel Ross for performing the audit
- Thanks to Ken Schultz for keeping the books straight in the first place
WEEDS COMMITTEE
- Larry Sime reported on Weeds Committee work
- $10K has been committed from Ayer & Littleton.
- $10K matching state funds have been requested from DEM
NON-PROFIT STATUS
- Ken Schultz reported on efforts to seek non-profit status
- Federal paperwork has been processed and fees paid
- Should have official Federal non-profit status in a few months
- State non-profit status will probably also fall into place after Federal non-profit status is established
GUILFORD
- Leon Weaver gave attendees an update on Guilford
- Guilford suing most of the boards in the town of Ayer
- No governmental agency has stepped in to protect the aquifer, as the Guilford proposal seems to fall outside their collective jurisdictions
- Ayer Board of Health MAY have jurisdiction
- Guilford claims only the Surface Transportation Board, via laws created by the U.S. Congress, has jurisdiction
- And the beat goes on....
ELECTIONS
- Ted Staples, head of Nominating Committee, offered the following slate
- Rob Hartz, President
- Bev Schultz, Vice President
- Donna Rawley, Secretary
- Ken Schultz, Treasurer
All nominees were unanimously voted in for a one year term
NEW BUSINESS:
WEBSITE
- Ann Bousquet reviewed website progress
- Website committee is looking for more Data, Old photographs, Information/pictures of pond plants and wildlife
- Suggestion was that we have an ISP host our website
LLC (Littleton Lakes Coalition)
- Ken Schultz and Leon Weaver are our representatives from SPA
- They're working to get a charter for the LLC
- The 6 voting members of LLC have voted NOT to incorporate.
CALENDAR YEAR
- Rob Hartz listed 4 calendar meetings for this year
- Bev Schultz volunteered to organize a service project to clean up the boat ramp, to be followed by a picnic.
- Ted Staples offered to lead a hike to the inlets of our pond. Maybe a canoe trip or a hike. It was noted that reparian rights mean that you can walk the waters and adjacent shoreline.
PACE NEWS
Laurie Nehring from P.A.C.E. was introduced and offered 3 flyers on a conference on April 8/9 sponsored by the Toxic Action Committee. All were invited to attend.
MTBE
The "60 Minutes" video on MTBE was shown.
TURTLES
Recognition was given to various members for their contributions this year. The awards were in the form of Blandings turtles mementos
VOLUNTEER WORK - Volunteers are requested for:
- Press secretary - blandings turtle article for web site and newspapers
- Collection of information on flora and fauna
- Collect turtle and salamander sighting info
- Create maps of these sightings
